Activity Log - Beta

  • Updated

Finding your Activity Log.

Your Site Activity Log shows you a chronological record of who made what change, and when, across an account. It answers a simple question SmugMug users can't reliably answer today: Who did what on my site, and when?

Whether you manage your site on your own or share the work with collaborators, it’s reassuring to be able to look back and see exactly what’s happened. The Site Activity Log gives you that visibility: a running history of the node actions taken on your account, so you always know how your site has changed over time. And if you’ve added collaborators, it’s an easy way to see what each of them has done.

Good to know: The Site Activity Log is currently in Beta, so you may see it continue to improve over time.

You can find your Activity Log by accessing the Manage Collaborators page and selecting, View Activity Log. Your Activity Log is private to you as the site owner, it's your view on what's happening on your account.

What you will see.

Your activity appears as a timeline, grouped by day and starting with the most recent changes. Scroll down, and you can see any additional activity. Each item tells you:

  • Who made the change - (and their role, such as Owner, Collaborator or Support.)
  • What they did - for example, creating or deleting a folder, gallery or page.
  • When it happened

A green plus icon means something was created or added, and a red trash can icon means something was deleted, so you can scan the timeline at a glance.

Getting more detail on any change.

Want to know more about a particular change? Select Show Details on any item to expand it, (and Hide Details to close it again). Depending on the change, you may see:

  • Visibility - such as Display on Site (Public), Anyone with the link (Unlisted), or Only Me (Private)
  • Access - who could view the item, such as Anyone
  • IP address - the address of the person who made the change, (if this is available)
  • Approximate location - a general location based on the IP address, (for example, CA, United States)

These extra details make it easy to confirm a change came by you or someone you trust and to be able to spot anything that looks out of place.

Filter by date.

Looking for something specific? Select the Date button at the top of the page to choose a date range. Pick a Start Date and End Date, then select, Apply. This is a quick way to jump to a certain day or month, for example, to see everything that happened in early July.

Why some details may not be visible.

Occasionally you may not see details like IP address or location. That simply means the information wasn't available to record for that particular change.

How far back your log goes.

Your Activity Log keeps a year of history. After a year older notifications will be removed from the log. Because this is a new feature, your log starts from the date we began recording activity, July 1, 2026. Changes made prior to that date won't appear.
