You can collect a photo so it displays in multiple galleries at once! This feature is perfect for creating portfolio galleries or making special collections for different audiences.
Note: This feature is available to SmugMug Basic, Power, Portfolio and Pro account owners only. It is not available on the Direct plan.
Collect a photo into another gallery
- Step 1: Open the source gallery in Organize and select the photos you want to collect.
- Step 2: Drag them from the source gallery to the destination gallery.
- Step 3: When prompted, click Collect to display the photos in both galleries.
The collected photo won't move from the original gallery where it was first uploaded. And collected copies will show a link to the source gallery in the info panel within the Lightbox, so you'll always know where you've stashed the original photos. Your visitors will see that link if your source gallery is public.
Remove a collected photo
- Step 1: In the Organizer, select the gallery containing the collected photo(s).
- Step 2: Collected photos will have a white arrow in the lower-left corner of the thumbnail.
- Step 3: Click the trash-can icon, then choose Remove Collected Photo.
If you wish to remove the collected photo using photo tools, click the wrench icon and select Remove from gallery. Removing the collected copy does not delete the originally uploaded photo, but deleting the original photo does also remove the collected copy.
Smart Galleries and automatic collection
You can automatically collect photos into a Smart Gallery by using Smart Rules with keywords. To set this up:
- Step 1: Create a new gallery manually.
- Step 2: Assign a keyword or other criteria to the photos.
- Step 3: The photos that match the criteria will automatically be collected into this Smart Gallery.
Important: Smart Galleries have a limit of 1,000 collected photos, while regular galleries allow you to collect up to 5,000 photos.
Commerce and privacy settings for collected photos
Collected photos follow the original gallery’s settings for watermarks and display copy size.
Collected photos retain the commerce and settings of the source gallery, with the following exceptions:
- Commerce settings (such as shopping cart, proof delay, boutique packaging, personal delivery, brand packaging, printmark, and backprinting) follow the collected gallery.
- A photo from a password-protected gallery collected into a public gallery will inherit the public gallery's visibility setting.
- A photo collected from a private gallery into an unlisted or public gallery will retain its private setting.
Use the collect feature to display your photos in multiple galleries without moving them. Remember that collected photos generally follow the settings of the source gallery, except for commerce and privacy settings.
